Las Anod Under Shelling: International Journalist Ayuub Xasan Reports on the Situation

The situation in Las Anod remains tense as reports of continued shelling and fighting enter their seventh day, with civilians and property reportedly affected by the ongoing conflict.

Ayuub Xasan, an international journalist based in Garowe, Puntland, Somalia, and working with Sahal Cable TV, has been reporting on the developments from the area. His coverage focuses on the impact of the fighting on civilians, the destruction of property, and the wider security and humanitarian situation in Las Anod.

According to Ayuub Xasan, artillery shells reportedly fired into the city have struck areas where civilians live, resulting in casualties and significant damage to homes and other property. Ayuub reported that many of those affected are believed to be civilians.

The fighting involves forces aligned with SSC-Khaatumo and forces associated with Somaliland, with SSC-Khaatumo forces reportedly seeking to prevent Somaliland from re-establishing control over Las Anod.

In his field reporting, Ayuub Xasan described a difficult situation for residents, with continued fighting creating fear, displacement, and damage across parts of the city.

The conflict follows years of Somaliland administration of Las Anod and the subsequent fighting that led to a change in control of the city. The latest clashes have once again raised concerns about civilian safety and the humanitarian consequences of continued violence.

Ayuub Xasan, reporting for Sahal Cable TV, said that the impact of the fighting extends beyond military positions, with civilians and civilian property reportedly caught in the middle of the conflict.

International concern has also grown over the situation, with calls for an end to the fighting, the protection of civilians, and a peaceful resolution to the dispute. Despite these appeals, however, reports from the ground indicate that the situation remains tense.

Through his reporting, international journalist Ayuub Xasan continues to document developments in Las Anod and bring information from the field to audiences through Sahal Cable TV and digital media platforms.
